MHHRA Officers - Carol Helsel

Carol is the Vice President of Human Resources and Quality Support Systems and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Western Michigan University. She has overseen HR her entire tenure of 15 years and recently absorbed additional duties under the QSS heading. Her responsibilities include oversight of system-wide human capital strategy, growth and learning, diversity, compensation administration, benefits management, employment and employee relations, performance/quality metrics and reward systems, risk management, culture integration, and co-leads merger, acquisition, and affiliation activities. In addition to her professional role, Carol serves as a past Board Chair and current Membership Committee Chair of the Michigan Healthcare Human Resources Association, President of the Health Field Collaborative, Board Member for the Lakeshore Employer Resources Network, Board Chair for West Michigan TEAM, and Chair of the Cornerstone Church Staff Parish Relations Committee. Carol has given numerous presentations throughout Michigan and the U.S. to various groups and associations on effective HR practices, strategies, talent development, metrics, cultural transformation, business planning, and succession planning. Under her guidance, Porter Hills has achieved and maintained recognition as an employer of choice. Some of the recent awards the company has received are recognition eight years in a row as one of West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, and an award from the Women’s Resource Center for Advancing Women in Leadership.
