President's Message

Welcome to the MHHRA website. If you are reading this, my guess is we have at least one of three things in common: human resources, health care and/or Michigan.

Our profession: HUMAN RESOURCES
We try to offer HR professionals the latest and greatest news, information, practices, ideas and have fun doing it. We have links to national leaders like American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and World at Work. These reliable resources set the benchmark for our profession. We also tap our statewide talent through avenues like our spring and fall conferences, Listserv and “Virtual Legal Hotline” to provide valid resources specific to serve our members’ needs.

Our industry: HEALTHCARE
We are blessed to be working in the healthcare field. What we do matters a great deal. Not only do our jobs enable us to provide for our families, but the fruits of our labor help others as well. We take care of the people that take care of the people. The ever changing landscape of healthcare reform is challenging. MHHRA is supported by ASSHRA to keep us abreast of what is happening on the national healthcare scene from and HR perspective. MHHRA is also supported by the Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA), providing us intelligence about the healthcare industry in Michigan from the provider perspective.

Our region: THE STATE of MICHIGAN
These are wild times in Michigan. A challenging economy has changed the landscape of our State for the foreseeable future. We are now trying to dig our way out. This has created new and different challenges and opportunities for both the healthcare professional and the HR professional. Healthcare organizations must survive financially to attain their mission. “no margin no mission” is one way to put it. Efficiency is not a want but a need in 2011 Michigan. This economy has impacted the HR pro’s focus from the labor shortages of a few short years ago, to now, on helping employees cope with the realities of the new economy: loss of jobs, where two family incomes become one, or the combination of wage freeze/rising benefit costs impacting take home pay.

MHHRA is here to provide support to you in this dynamic environment. We bring these three elements together in one package. Our website is one of the outcomes of what we are about. I hope you enjoy it.
